About Me !
Although I knew well the company Villeroy & Boch Mettlach through a lot of summer holiday jobs as student, I had no knowledges of the ceramic which was produced more than 100 years in Mettlach.

By chance, I had once visited the Ceramics Museum in Mettlach and was then totally fascinated by the beauty of the ceramic products that were mainly produced in the period of 1850-1915 , the so-called Golden Age of Mettlach stoneware art .
This motivated me to delve deeper into this topic and as I found little information about the former Mettlach artists and products on the internet, I decided to publish a web-book on the Mettlach stoneware / earthenware and its artists concerning the Golden Age.
In the first step , I analyzed and structured the knowledge accumulated over decades on the Internet and dedicated books / notebooks.
In the second step , I have made my own research and have incorporated my findings successively into the web-book, which I will continue to do in the future too.
This work is also a kind of " living book" that will probably never be completely finished, as there will always be new insights over time.
During the "picking up" the existing knowledge I had a close contact to the company archive of Villeroy & Boch in Merzig and the Ceramics Museum in Mettlach . In particular, I would like to thank the director of the company archive (Ms. Agnes Müller) and one of the employees of the Keramikmuseum (Ms. Iris Lippach) for his help.
The contact with Prof. Branko Stahl (great-grandson of Metllacher "Master of Phanolith "Jean-Baptiste Stahl), whom I met personally in his studio in Heppenheim, helped me very much to describe the knowledge about his great-grandfather as a person and as an artist for Villeroy and Boch Mettlach in very detailed form. Also thank you very much.
I can only hope that this website finds the encouragement that I wish so that this period of splendor Mettlach ceramics / artists will not be forgotten.
I would be very happy about your feedback, suggestions for correction and thematic additions.
with the best regards from Mettlach on the Saar

objects of the Mettlach artists "Jean-Baptiste Stahl (1869-1932)" and "Peter Winkel (1866-1932)", who both lived in Mettlach-Keuchingen. They were good friends in their lifetime
